Maisie - It's Finally Here!

Described by critics as “an amalgamation of Indie floor-fillers”, The Mood’s latest release is a sure addition to any euphoric Indie Rock playlist. “You can hear a Smiths style jangly lead guitar, a gritty, distorted guitar, Oasis inspired rhythmic feel, real-life observational lyrics similar to Blur and the anything goes attitude of The Libertines”. With vocal delivery in their own “Brummie” accent, The Mood have really emulated the quintessential “British” sound of their influences. Perfect for a euphoric Indie Rock Playlist.

Maisie captures the everyday life, love, and challenges of working-class youth, addressing social issues such as work, stress, love, anxiety, and lack-of social life. The song was written about a real life friend of lead-singer, Dan, someone who he went to college with albeit they had a different name. The chorus puts a metaphorical arm around the character of Maisie, suggesting everything will be alright - “You’ll still be singing the chorus for days after you hear it! It’s THAT catchy!”. In addition to this, The Mood also capture the essence of their charismatic live performances in this recording, giving the piece a certain energy.

As well as the catchiness of this song (and the “woahs” after the choruses), its relatability makes also makes it a fan sing-along when The Mood perform live. With lyrics about working class youth’s struggle, it’s bound to send a chill down the spine.
